The Dalai Lama is the spiritual and temporal leader of the Tibetan
people. He has resided in exile in Dharamsala, India, since
1959 when Chinese forces invaded Tibet. His tireless efforts

recognition. He is the recipient of numerous awards including
the Wallenberg Award (conferred by the U.S. Congressional Human
Rights Foundation) and the Albert Schweitzer Award, In 1.989
he received the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to find a
peaceful solution to the Tibetan struggle for liberty.
